Asset location for underground infrastructure.
Fibre-based tracing and surveying to locate routes and positions of existing infrastructure when map data is incomplete or absent.
01
The problem.
Map data for underground infrastructure in Norway is incomplete. Much was laid down without documentation, or with map data that has become inaccurate over time. The result: excavation contractors and infrastructure owners do not know exactly where pipes and cables are located.
02
Our approach.
Landmarker uses distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) and proprietary signal-analysis methods to trace fibre-optic cable along the entire route. We can identify position with high precision without excavating.
The result is verified XYZ coordinates that can be stored directly in network information systems and used as the basis for further planning.
Worth knowing
Deliverable
Verified XYZ coordinates, a report documenting methodology and precision, and import files for your network information system.
03
How it works.
- DAS equipment is connected to existing fibre-optic cable in the route
- Controlled pulses are sent along the fibre to identify position
- Landmarker's algorithms interpret the signals and calculate position
- The position is verified in the field with traditional surveying where necessary
- Results are delivered as coordinate files ready to import into GIS and NIS
